About Kathryn Aegis
My interest in budo and bushido began at Furman University, where I was introduced to the philosophical concepts of Toaism and Aikido by David Shaner, Sensei. While at Furman I was a member of the fencing club and specialized in foil. I then moved to DC to complete my degree and for several years studied aikdo and related weaponry at the Aikido Schools of Ueshiba Shobukan dojo with Mitsugi Saotome, Shihan. I then studied Nakamura Ryu Battodo with Dave Drawdy, Sensei at the Capital Area Budokai. Most recently, I started jodo study at the same school, but had to stop training due to injury. It's not clear when I will be able to train again.
Much credit also goes to my Japanese aunt, Reiko, who cooked wonderful meals for me, poured my first sake, and introduced me to her culture. It is to her that I dedicate my training.

My Iaito
my iaito
I use a Jidai Tokujo Koshirae model iaito that was made by Nishijin Token, a subsidiary of Tozando. The blade has a straight hamon, and a very sharp kissaki. Although it weighs over two pounds, the balancing is really easy on the wrists. Mine has tan wrappings, a matte brown saya, lotus leaf menuki and dragon fittings.
